Behind the scenes at any smoothly run office is a team dedicated to making sure day-to-day operations are able to run like a well-oiled machine.
At PharPoint Research, Jaye F., our operations assistant, helps tackle that task.
Jaye is responsible for a variety of tasks that keep the PharPoint office running, including inventory and vendor management as well as other miscellaneous day-to-day functions.
“Knocking out those little, small tasks around the office,” he explains, “especially when I’m dealing with vendor stuff… it’s kind of like ‘calendar Tetris™’. So, I kind of view this Outlook calendar every day as a game of Tetris, and I try to make it so it flows and works best for me.”
Jaye’s natural inclination towards logistics and ensuring everything has a process has naturally brought him towards operational roles.
As he traces back his career, he shares one of his earliest roles in the workforce within waste management. Starting out as a garbage man, he ended up helping the sanitation site with their spreadsheets and slide decks.
“I found that I gravitated towards seeing the behind-the-scenes and how things flow,” Jaye says. “I kind of just fell into it just by interest and accident.”
Later, Jaye’s curiosity and joy of helping people landed him a role as a solutions specialist where he was responsible for customer satisfaction. Eventually, Jaye moved into an office administrator role. From there, Jaye has garnered nearly a decade of administrative roles as well as his Master of Education from the University of Vermont in 2016.
Outside of work, you can find Jaye watching classic noir films of the 40’s (such as “The Maltese Falcon,” an action/thriller staring Noir legend Humphrey Bogart) with his girlfriend or enjoying music and slam poetry videos on YouTube.
Working in a medically involved environment, Jaye has a personal connection to the industry and the work he contributes to.
“I was born with sickle cell anemia and deal with pains every day,” Jaye shares. “I just roll with it, regardless of what’s going on. If it’s not stopping me from being mobile, then I will continue to do what I do. I’ve had 11 CAT scans. 2 seizures. I’ve been blind twice – I was 20, in college, and I had a final and I went blind. Luckily, I got to retake it.”
While living with sickle cell anemia has caused many health concerns for him, Jaye states that the work schedule flexibility of working at PharPoint has helped alleviate some concerns.
“Being able to have that flexibility – knowing that if something really came up at home, I could step out for a second and then return later without penalization – is amazing. It definitely goes to show that the people at PharPoint, including the founders, care. Not just about the work that we are doing, but the lives we live outside of the office.”
When asked what the most rewarding aspect of working at PharPoint is, Jaye answered the ability to make someone’s day.
“At the end of the day, everyone just wants someone to be there for them. They just want to know someone is looking out for them,” Jaye says. “When I’m the person who can give that to them, that makes me happy and super accomplished when I go home at the end of the day.”
