Meet the PharPoint Team: Mary H., Associate Director of Biostatistics

Meet Mary H., PharPoint’s Associate Director of Biostatistics. In her role, Mary touches every aspect of the biostatistics department. She is actively involved in projects overseeing broad-based programs, serving as a lead biostatistician on late phase studies, guiding clients as a statistical consultant, and/or lending a hand as a skilled statistical programmer. Mary balances her project work with administrative tasks including development of proposals, hiring, and supervising and mentoring staff. Her favorite aspect of the job is being able to watch her coworkers grow and gain confidence.

One of Mary’s most memorable projects involved delivering groundbreaking data to a client for a disease prevention study. “To be one of the first people in the world to see these results and then share it with the client – that was really neat.”

Mary’s journey to PharPoint began during her Ph.D. program at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Her stint as an intern in 2010 turned into a full-time role in 2014 (after a short break to finish her dissertation), and she has been with the company since. She has profound respect for her colleagues and appreciates PharPoint’s culture, especially the open communication shared with leadership. Mary noted that the lack of barriers to sharing ideas makes PharPoint a uniquely fulfilling workplace.

Outside of work, Mary leads a full and lively life. A mother to six children and a resident of the Tennessee countryside, she and her family raise chickens, pigeons, and even pigs—some of which are pets while others contribute to the farm’s sustainability. The family also maintains a small orchard they plan to expand over the next few years.

Mary’s advice to newcomers and seasoned professionals alike? Stay on top of your assignments and “document everything in real time.”
