Acknowledging World Cancer Day 2021 at PharPoint Research

February 4th marks World Cancer Day, led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). As a CRO with expertise in oncology, PharPoint Research is dedicated to uniting in the fight against cancer.

The History of World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day was first recognized in 2000 at the World Summit Against Cancer for the New Millennium. It was created with the goal to promote research, prevent cancer, improve patient services, raise awareness and mobilize the global community to make progress against cancer.

In 2020, nearly 1,000 activities and events took place for World Cancer Day spread across 113 countries, reaching millions of people.

Advancements in Oncology Research

Clinical development for oncology trials is on the rise, with innovative sponsors around the world paving the way to better treatments and, potentially, more cures. Between 2013 and 2018, the number of oncology drugs in late-stage development grew by 63%, and newly launched drugs reached a record high in 2018.

Approaches such as immunotherapies have rapidly gained popularity, with the potential to reduce safety concerns, have a higher therapeutic index, and tackle a range of targets.
