Crafting the Perfect Resume: Tips to Stand Out in a Competitive Job Market

This article offers essential tips for crafting a resume that passes screenings, highlights your impact, stays simple, and is error-free, thus boosting your chances in a competitive job market.

In the current competitive job market, the “perfect” resume has become even more important. I’ve listed some helpful tips on how to better enhance your resume and increase your chances of landing the job.

  • Using the Correct Keywords– Many companies use resume scoring services to scan submitted resumes for keywords and determine if you’re a good match. This means that many resumes never land in front of the decision-maker and never get past the gatekeeper of resume scoring.
  • Provide Examples of How You Brought Value to the Team–  Simply stating you’ve done something won’t cut it. Give specific examples, feature metrics, and outcomes that prove HOW you made a positive impact at your previous employer and how you can potentially help the one you’re applying to.
  • Keep a Simple Format–  Flashy graphic-heavy resumes could cost you the job. Scanned resumes with the feature intricate layouts may cause your compatibility score to suffer, keeping you out of the running for the position. Stick to black-and-white text; your experience should be the attention grabber, not the design.
  • Proofread – An error-free resume shows hiring managers you have attention to detail, a quality that every job requires. A quick once-over can be the difference between landing the job and not.
